I haven't written a review before but felt I wanted to spread the word about this lovely novel. I found it difficult to put this book down. I loved the characters, even though they are not always nice people, and the author really painted a picture of the setting that made me wish I was there. It is quite an easy read but I still felt connected to the characters and cared about their stories. If you enjoy reading Maeve Binchy and Marion Keyes, I will say with confidence, that you'll enjoy The Beach Hut. I look forward to reading more by Veronica Henry.

I only picked up my first Veronica Henry book towards the end of 2010 which was the first book featured in the Honeycote series. That was quickly followed by the others the Honeycote Series, and following that I just haven't picked up another. I really enjoyed the Honeycote books, but they weren't books that left a lasting impression.

I started the book with an open mind and within a few pages, I was hooked. Jane Milton is the main focus of the story and before long we learn that her husband has died leaving her in serious debt. The Beach Hut in Everdene is the hut that her family have used for years, only this time she is visiting for the last time, before she is forced to sell up. Quite early on in the book, the reader is transported back to when Jane was younger, which I was instantly gripped with. However, just as I was getting my teeth into that, Veronica takes us to a new chapter, a new hut, and a glimpse into somebody else's life.

There is a huge selection of characters built up around the Everdene Huts and to be quite honest although I was surprised, it made such a refreshing change to see glimpses of numerous characters, but with enough information to whet the appetite for the next character. Usually, so many people in one story would put me off, but this book does the opposite.

Although Jane and her family are the focal point, we get to witness many different situations and scenarios which are all playing out around the Milton family. The character of Jane Milton was a great one, a woman who has been there and seen it all before, but somehow is managing to take it in her stride and not become too bitter. Running parallel, we see Roy who has know Jane his whole life, and has grown up in Everdene having never set foot outside of the county, let alone out of the country.

We get such a mix of people that it keeps the book fresh right the way through. We follow Jane from a young teenage girl, with a storyline concerning an author she used to work for, and which I absolutely loved. I can explain this book as almost like 5 or 6 short stories thrown in with one main theme.

Overall, when I finished this book I couldn't wait to see what else I had by VH. This book was a dream to read, it keeps you really interested right the way through and I would highly recommend it. Now I can look forward to reading the rest of her books.

I must confess, I've never read a Veronica Henry book before. But since it's summertime in Australia and I'm in the mood for some sunny fiction, I thought `The Beach Hut' was an aptly titled novel to pique my interest. And pique it did. . .

The `novel' is really a collection of short stories as Henry introduces us to the various hut-residents of Everdene. But each perspective is a cohesively woven tale that ultimately tells the story of Everdene and its significance for the various beach-goers and residents, particularly for the Milton's. And there are over-arching themes and interconnected stories - like Roy, who keeps up Hut maintenance and has been nursing a crush on Jane for years.

I loved that the book revolved around a setting and evolved from there. Place is intricate to the story, and Everdene Sands became a character unto itself as all the various beach-goers reveal the Sands significance to them. I think this was a lovely concept, and if a picture is worth a thousand words then Henry wonderfully captures Everdene Sands so it's like you're reading a snapshot in a family album. This little place the holds so many memories and ties so many people together - beautiful.

`The Beach Hut' is both a `beach-read' and a little bit `chick-lit', though I am wary to use either label for their frivolous connotations. `The Beach Hut' is an easy read - both because the story sucks you in from the first chapter (and doesn't let up) and because the stand-alone chapter stories make it easy to put down and pick up. I use the word `chick-lit' only because Henry beautifully examines the interconnections of family and the memories we keep of a place. All the good `touchy-feely' female stuff, so to speak. But don't go thinking that `The Beach Hut' is a throw-away bit of reading fairy-floss. The book has real heart and soul, and Henry will suck you in from the opening chapter and keep a hold of you until the last page. Fantastic summer reading!
Started out promising, and had me hooked. Lacked "pull" at the end when trying to bring together and conclude the multiple storylines. There was one quite compelling storyline which I think was relied on too heavily.
I purchased one of her books from a store in the Madrid airport while waiting for my flight, having no idea she was a British author with Orion books. When I got home, I went to the library to get another book of hers, but no luck. So-- to the rescue. It took awhile for it to get to me(via Sweden), but defintely worth the wait. You REALLY can get just about anything at !
Love Veronica Henry, I usually hate short storie collections but this one kept me going to the end, I liked the way a few of them were interwoven
